The ConstructionOnline Team is pleased to announce the addition of powerful new Retainage capabilities for OnCost™ Invoicing, delivering greater accuracy, transparency, and control to financial workflows across residential and commercial construction teams. The enhanced toolset allows companies to define, calculate, and invoice for retained funds with unprecedented flexibility—supporting more precise billing and clearer insight into project finances.
Smarter, More Flexible Retainage Management
With this release, ConstructionOnline™ introduces two distinct Retainage calculation methods, giving teams the ability to tailor invoicing to match contract requirements and project standards:
- Percent (%): Calculates retainage automatically as a percentage of the current invoice amount.
- Flat Dollar ($): Applies a fixed retained amount for simplified, direct-value billing.
These options ensure that construction professionals can manage retainage in a way that aligns with their preferred accounting practices and contractual obligations.
Enhanced Accuracy Across Invoicing & Reporting
The new Retainage functionality delivers meaningful improvements to the accuracy and clarity of ConstructionOnline financial data:
- Total invoiced amounts now exclude prorated Retainage, ensuring cleaner reporting across Estimates, the Invoice Dashboard, and connected systems—including QuickBooks Online integrations.
- Retainage can be invoiced independently or included as part of running totals, offering complete flexibility for billing cycles and payment applications.
- The Invoice Dashboard now displays Running Retainage alongside Paid amounts, giving teams instant visibility into both collected and withheld funds.
- Invoice Details have been updated to include a dedicated Retainage line item, shown alongside Invoice Total, Paid to Date, and Outstanding balances for improve clarity.
These enhancements make it easier than ever for teams to track withheld amounts, manage outstanding balances, and maintain full financial transparency from estimate to final payment.
Access & Permissions
Retainage is now available to all Companies with active ConstructionOnline Business subscriptions. Company Users must have "Can Create, Edit, and Delete" permissions for Invoicing to access and utilize Retainage settings.
Paving the Way to Smarter Financial Management
The introduction of Retainage marks a foundational milestone in ConstructionOnline’s expanding financial management vision. This enhancement not only strengthens accuracy and transparency in today’s invoicing workflows—it also lays essential groundwork for future capabilities. Retainage serves as a key stepping stone toward Applications for Payment, a major platform addition currently in development and projected for release in early 2026.
Together, these advancements underscore UDA Technologies’ ongoing commitment to delivering comprehensive, industry-leading financial tools that support construction professionals at every stage of the project lifecycle.
