ConstructionOnline™ has introduced Costbook Item History, a new enhancement that gives construction teams a detailed, version-by-version record of changes to the cost data behind their estimates.
Company Costbooks in ConstructionOnline serve as centralized resources for construction cost data, including materials, labor, equipment, subcontractor costs, assemblies, and other reusable estimating information. As Costbooks grow and pricing changes, knowing exactly what changed, when it changed, and who changed it becomes essential to keeping estimates accurate.
Detailed Item History for Construction Costs
With this release, every Costbook Item now has a dedicated "History" tab within its Item Details. The Costbook Item History shows each version of the item listed in a table, including who made the change, when it was made, and the values for Unit Cost, Classification, Purchase Unit, Unit of Measure, Waste %, Expiration Date, Website Link, and Resource(s). Because versions sit next to each other in a table, ConstructionOnline makes it easier to compare identify what changed from one version to the next.
Costbook Item History is available for items within Costbooks and Assemblies. To view it, open any item from Company Costbooks and select the History tab.
For teams managing large Costbooks with frequently updated pricing, supplier information, labor assumptions, or estimating details, this added visibility helps reduce uncertainty and supports stronger internal review processes.
Greater Control Over Active Cost Data
Costbook Item History goes beyond a simple change log. From the History table, users can choose which version of an item is set as "Active" in the Costbook, making it easy to restore a previous price or specification at any time. Users with the appropriate permissions can also delete item versions when necessary, keeping cost records clean and relevant.
For teams that rely on Costbooks to standardize pricing and estimating across projects, Costbook Item History adds a new layer of accountability and control. Teams can trace how labor rates and material prices have changed, correct mistakes without re-entering data, and trust the numbers behind every bid.
